BREAK DOWN WHAT THIS COULD MEAN
FOR STUDENTS. NOLAN? NOLAN: NIGEL AND GABBY,
THESE PROPOSED CHANGES WON’T
IMPACT ANY STUDENTS CURRENTLY AT
MAULDIN OR HILLCREST HIGH
SCHOOL. THE CHANGES WILL BEGIN IN 2021
WHEN THE NEW FOUNTAIN INN HIGH
SCHOOL IS SET TO OPEN.>>THE GOLDEN STRIP AREA IS
GROWING RAPIDLY. NOLAN: GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOLS
SAY THE REZONING IS IN REACTION
TO A GROWING POPULATION AND THE
OPENING OF FOUNTAIN INN HIGH
SCHOOL.>>MAULDIN HIGH SCHOOL AND
HILLCREST HIGH SCHOOL BOTH HAVE
OVER 2,000 STUDENTS AND THAT IS
SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN OUR BOARD
LIKES SCHOOLS TO BE. NOLAN: THE DISTRICT SAYS ONCE
THE PHASING IN IS COMPLETE
MAULDIN, HILLCREST, AND FOUNTAIN
INN WILL HAVE AN ENROLLMENT OF
AROUND 2000 STUDENTS. SOME STUDENTS THAT ARE SET TO
ATTEND MAUDLIN OR HILLCREST HIGH
SCHOOL WOULD ENROLL AT THE NEW
FOUNTAIN INN HIGH SCHOOL. AND SEVEN MAUDLIN NEIGHBORHOODS
WOULD BE REZONED TO HILLCREST
HIGH SCHOOL IN SIMPSONVILLE. RAVII GLOVER ISN’T HAPPY WITH
THAT. HER SON WOULD BE REASSIGNED FROM
MAULDIN HIGH TO HILLCREST HIGH
>>JUST FROM MY RESEARCH MAULDIN
HAS BETTER TEST SCORES AND THIS
IS THE REASON THAT I’M HERE. NOLAN: SC DEPARTMENT OF
EDUCATION SCHOOL REPORT CARDS
SHOWS MAULDIN HAVING HIGHER
SCHOOLS ON END OF COURSE
ASSESSMENTS IN 2018. GLOVER SPENT PART OF THIS
AFTERNOON GETTING NEIGHBORS TO
SIGN A PETITION TO STOP THE
CHANGE.>>TAKE IT TO THE MEETING,
REPORT IT TO THE BOARD THAT WE
OPPOSE THIS DECISION. NOLAN: THAT MEETING GLOVER IS
REFERENCING IS FOR PARENTS WHOSE
CHILDREN WOULD BE ASSIGNED TO
HILLCREST HIGH FROM MAULDIN HIGH
AT HILLCREST MIDDLE SCHOOL. GREENVILLE COUNTY REMIND
